Nottingham Forest were held 2-2 at Crewe Alexandra in pre-season friendly action yesterday whilst their were wins on the road for both Mansfield Town and Notts County.
Performance of the day came at the KCOM stadium were Nigel Clough’s Stags League Two side beat Championship outfit Hull City on their own patch.
Two goals for new signing Danny Johnson either side of half time gave the away team full control in the early kick off Humberside before Northern Ireland International Josh Magennis pulled one back to leave an uncomfortable last fifteen minutes with Mansfield goalkeeper George Shelvey in top form.
Forest went to League One Crewe off the back of three straight wins and may have been confident of extending that run after Brennan Johnson gave the away side the lead after the goalkeeper spilled a Joe Lolley effort from outside the box. Johnson racing through to reach the rebound and prod home on the half hour.
The same combination and same player made it two on 58 when Lolley found Johnson on the right who cut in shooting low left footed to double his tally, but Crewe fought back and pulled a goal back with a slick passing move on 75, Callum Ainley firing low in to the corner after good work down the right.
Four minutes later it was all square as Rio Adebisi cut in from the right wing to fire an unstoppable shot home on the angle, the Reds in the end disappointed to not see the game through with victory but now unbeaten in four, they face a tough test next with a trip to Premier League Aston Villa on Wednesday.
For Notts County they travelled to National League North AFC Telford and came away with a single goal victory thanks to the returning Cal Roberts who’s corner on 68 minutes was played short before the Geordie Messi received the ball again to cut in from the right and fire home a magnificent left footed winner from outside the box.
Next up for Notts, Boston United away on Tuesday whilst the Stags are in action on the same night at home to Coventry City.
