Kairo Lands In NG2
Notts County have signed Leicester born forward Kairo Mitchell from Chesterfield as Head Coach Ian Burchnall strengthens his squad ahead of the new National League season by adding a long term Magpies target as one of the final pieces to the promotion jigsaw.
Mitchell 23, joins following a short spell at Chesterfield after impressing at Kings Lynn Town with 7 goals in 20 league games at the start of last season. At the Spirites the former Leicester City Academy striker played just eight times scoring once, and Notts have now snapped up a striker that cut his cloth at Coalville Town where he scored 21 goals in two years.
Head Coach Burchnall stated “Kairo is a player we have watched for quite a while now. At King’s Lynn he was prolific not only in the goals he scored but also the chances he created and he’s been our number-one target for this role throughout the summer.”
“Clearly he’s not had the minutes he would have liked at Chesterfield but he’s done well in the games we’ve watched and we’re delighted we’ve had the opportunity to bring him here, where we feel the style of play will suit him and give him the platform to really demonstrate what he can do.”
After fellow Notts striker Lewis Knight hobbled off against Boston United last week, more emphasis was made on finding a forward to strengthen the Magpies attack and Burchnall now feels he has completed his pack by stating “I’m very happy with what I’ve got in the forward area now. I know people have talked about goalscorers but Kyle Wootton scored 19 last season, Ruben got 11. That’s a lot of goals from two players and, if you add in Cal Roberts and Kairo, I think we’re going to score plenty from different areas.”
Mitchell is likely to be involved in a friendly against York City at the weekend, Notts then travel to Solihull Moors on Saturday 14th August in their final pre-season match ahead of a trip to Barnet on the 21st August where the National League campaign begins.
