Badgers Hit Four To Go Top
Retford United 4-1 Sutton Rovers (Central Midlands League Premier North) 10.08.21
Over 150 spectators turned up at Cannon Park on Tuesday night to witness Liam Kay’s Badgers see off visitors Sutton Rovers in the Central Midlands League, Aaron Fell bagging a brace in an eventual, 4-1 win.
Having opened their league campaign with a 2-0 win, on the road, at Kiveton Miners at the weekend, Retford United made it two-from-two with another impressive, accomplished performance.
Both sides had numerous chances in what was a tight, first period, the visitors though picking up a number of yellows that would later prove costly, whilst Igor Mlynarski would try to catch the home side off-guard with an attack inside the opening minute.
The Badgers though, they would take an interval lead with the opening goal just past the half hour mark, Brandon Kane finding the back of the net with his second goal of the season, his 18-yard-effort going in off the post, beyond that of visiting ‘keeper Lee Mayberry.
Within ten minutes of the restart the Badgers were dealt a blow when Oli Lawrence went down injured, it proving serious enough for an enforced change, manager Kay bringing on Aaron Fell in his place, a change that paid near-instant dividends, after a minor set-back that is.
The visitors would snatch what would be a short-lived equaliser on the hour mark as Blake Blythe brilliantly heads home a cross from Ellis Pattison, and the sides were, briefly, tied at ones-each.
Minutes later and Badgers’ hitman, Mark West, was on target himself, he duly smashing the ball into the top corner and, just ten minutes after coming on, Aaron Fell got his first of the evening, beautifully turning in the box and firing home.
As the game headed into its final ten minutes the hosts moved out of sight, and Fell would add his second of the game when getting on the end of a cross from Igor Mlynarski, before the visiting Rovers found themselves down to ten men.
Already having had a number of players booked, Sutton Rovers would finish with ten men when Adi Parker was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Retford United: Tom Crosby, Jason Paling, Tom Brook, Stuart Ludlum, Igor Mlynarski, Danny Booth, Oliver Lawrence (Aaron Fell, 66), Mason Barlow, Brandon Kane, Bruno Holden, Mark West.
