Pirates Arriving At The Bay

After a fortnight off, with teams in the RFU Championship taking a breather last weekend from 2021/22 proceedings, Nottingham Rugby are back in action tonight, as they welcome the Cornish Pirates to Lady Bay in a 7:45pm kick off Trentside.

A promising start to the season by the green and whites was significantly dented last time out as Ealing Trailfinders ran away to win 78-19 and impose a second defeat in four for Nottingham who had previously beat Ampthill and Hartpury in between losing a close encounter at Richmond.

The Archers home record so far has been good though, with two wins from two for eighth placed Nottingham, but Cornish Pirates themselves have had a rocky start, sitting tenth (second to last) having played three games and lost two.

The Pirates have, however beaten Ealing who have themselves been thumping others, with a positive ninety points difference, they sit top of the league so no shame in Nottingham’s defeat last time out, Head Coach Craig Hammond stating that the side ‘did have chances’ before the Londoners ran away with things.

Hammond stated ahead of tonight’s game against the Pirates “A few guys were rested against Ealing and everyone has come back pretty hungry. Training this week has been intense and we’ve got good competition out there which is what we need.

“We haven’t got the biggest squad so we’ve got to keep everyone fit. Having weekends off helps those guys. It’s healthy and if you train well, you will get opportunities.”
