The second round of the Notts Senior Cup was drawn live on Notts TV last night with the pick of the ties undoubtably involving little old Kimberley Miners Welfare and once upon a two-time champions of Europe, Nottingham Forest.
Kimberley thumped Dunkirk 7-1 in the first round to progress and host the Reds at their Stag Ground in a game that should be scheduled for next month. Date and times of all second round ties to be agreed.
Forest will for a second time in three years include a team after last season’s competition was abandoned without a ball being kicked due to covid and the one before that, ended by national lockdown following a victory for Forest at holders Basford United in the fourth round. The Reds under 23’s, managed by Andy Reid, will participate with Notts County and Mansfield Town also entering teams into the competition.
County will play the winner of Clifton All Whites and Hucknall Town whilst Mansfield, visit their friends down the road at Rainworth Miners Welfare, the venue of many Stags Academy and Reserve team performance of years gone by.
In other ties, Carlton Town host Gedling Miners Welfare in a derby match at Stoke Lane whilst Sherwood Colliery, having beaten Eastwood in the last round 2-1, are rewarded by hosting Basford United, who won the most recent Senior Cup final in 2019 when they beat Carlton Town 3-0 at Field Mill.
Finally, Selston host Teversal, Newark travel to AFC Mansfield and Clipstone entertain Ollerton in some fiesty looking last-sixteen ties with plenty of local pride at stake.
