Pirates Take Points From The Bay

Nottingham 8-32 Cornish Pirates (RFU Championship) 22.10.21

A tough night for Nottingham Rugby as they hosted the Cornish Pirates in what was an easy win for the away side at Lady Bay.

The visitors struck over an early converted try through Channon after just four minutes and doubled their advantage through Stevens on ten, although the Archers registered their first and only try of the night, four minutes later through Jake Farnworth with extra points by Sam Hollingsworth, a penalty goal gave the Pirates a 17-8 advantage at the break.

Within two minutes of half time, any hope of a Nottingham comeback was dismantled by another try for the away side, this time Patrick Schickerling going over to score before Robson converted his fourth kick of the night, Robson again kicked a penalty to make the score 26-8 before a late try by Benjamin in the final minute wrapped things up.

Nottingham Coach Craig Hammond summing up after “We had some good opportunities up front and we had opportunities to take some more points. The stuff we worked on in the week we didn’t execute so we’ve got to learn from that and move on.”

“We had to push the pace. They’re a very good team and they’re coached really well. We gave them opportunities and they scored two or three lineout drives. If you give them opportunities like that it’s a hard place to defend.

“I’m proud of the boys for their intent and we created the opportunities. The next step is to take the opportunities and add more points.”
