Ten Men Stags See Off Barrow

Barrow 1-3 Mansfield Town (EFL League Two) 22.01.22

Mansfield Town came back from their abandoned match in midweek at Forest Green to do what they do best in the North-West as the Stags beat Barrow and doing so very impressively with ten men for the majority of the game.

The Stags started firing on all cylinders too, a minute in and Oates flicked in for a fifth league goal of the season following a Mansfield corner whipped into the box.

Barrow though were back on level terms after just seventeen minutes when James Jones levelled things up but the Stags were back in charge on 25. Stephen McLaughlin drilling home after a quick corner was played back to him by Stephen Quinn.

Mansfield however lost Farrend Rawson seven minutes before the break when after being booked in the 34th minute he received a second caution just four minutes later for a challenge in the Barrow half.

Nigel Clough’s men seeing out the remainder of the half with further players going into the Referees notebook. Hawkins and Stirk both seeing yellow for fouls.

A big second 45 was very much called for by the Mansfield coaching staff and Nigel Clough got a committed performance from his players despite Barrow’s siege.

Olly Banks flying a volley just wide of Bishop’s goal before he went into the book for a foul on Oates, but against the run of play, Mansfield made it three when Jordan Bowery headed home a free kick to all but seal Stags three points on the road.

That goal on 67 allowed Mansfield to play out the remainder with a cushion and despite Barrow hitting the crossbar on 88 it was the away side who confidently took the points on offer with the automatic promotion places now just three points away.

That’s eight wins in a row now for the divisions form side. Next up Leyton Orient at the One Call in seven days time.
