Notts Held At Wealdstone
Wealdstone 0-0 Notts County (National League) 25.01.22
A scoreless draw left Notts County frustrated from their road trip to Middlesex as Ian Burchnall’s promotion chasers will consider it two points dropped at Grosvener Vale against a side nineteenth in the National League table.
The first main attempt of the match came for Notts as Kyle Wootton tested the Wealdstone goalkeeper Wickens after just seven minutes as the Magpies strikers shot was parried back to Cal Roberts who volleyed the rebound back off-target.
At the other end on twelve minutes, Umerah headed over from a free kick whilst eight minutes later Slocombe got down well to a shot by Mascoli.
In a half which Notts played some confident football, chances were few and far between, but it was the home side who again looked to gain advantage when Slocombe was forced into tipping a shot around the post on the stroke of half time to ensure the match went into the break goalless.
Notts started the second period well and went close when Jayden Richardson fired over from an acute angle on 47 before a succession of corners came to little effect.
On 63 Richardson forced Wickens to save at his near post whilst Slocombe was called into action to push away a free kick from danger on 66.
A minute later Wickens again denied Notts, this time as Brindley’s drive was pushed out for a corner before Cameron headed the resulting set play wide.
Late on Richardson had a shot cleared off the line whilst in injury time Wootton’s goalward shot was blocked by a defender, Notts unable to break down the Wealdstone wall on the night, with the hosts defending well.
Frustrating for Notts who drop outside the playoffs on goal difference but with games in hand, they are still only six points from leaders Stockport who have played two more.
Next up another away game at the weekend and a trip to Bromley on Saturday who are going well in fourth.
