Lyle Taylor has left Nottingham Forest for Birmingham City where he’ll stay until the remainder of the season on loan.
The 31-year-old came to the City Ground from Charlton Athletic with a big reputation having scored 36 goals in 67 games for the Addicks, including a very well worked one in a superb performance against Forest back in February 2020 which had Reds fans at the time preaching to those in office to do what it takes to get the Montserrat international strikers signature.
Since joining Forest, which he did in the summer of 2020, things haven’t always gone so well for Taylor who’s shown glimpses of his goalscoring exploits, none the least at Bristol City this season after coming off the bench to score twice in stoppage time and earn Forest three points from brink of defeat. His 61 games however have seen just 8 goals scored and Taylor has often played second fiddle to Reds skipper Lewis Grabban in the number nine role. Despite his underwhelming statistics he’s often been admired by Forest fans for the way he conducts himself off the pitch, in pressing matters that are bigger than the sport of football itself, Taylor has often been outspoken and opinionated with a level of maturity shown through his stance on racism and the black lives matter movement, for his unbelievable contributions to charity and the Pink October campaign where he regularly dyes his hair to raise awareness, Taylor is a popular and likeable person at the club and although will be leaving on a temporary basis, stated his own love for Forest with an outgoing comment on Instagram which said “See you at the promotion party”.
Reds fans will hope Taylor can score some goals for Birmingham against those in and around the playoffs and promotion race that could potentially help Forest achieve their own Championship target, Steve Cooper’s men face a tough trip to Wales at the weekend and a match at Cardiff City who themselves have been finding things tough going in the league this season.
Steve Morison’s side are twentieth in the table without a win in six in the league, the Bluebirds have been in links with a return of Neil Warnock but that won’t be before Forest come to town on Sunday for a live match on Sky Sports (4pm kick off).
Joe Worrall will again miss out with injury the Reds only major concern to the team(s) that have featured so well of late, ahead of transfer deadline day on Monday, Tobias Figueiredo, could head out the door with Vitoria de Guimares linked over a loan move. Joao Carvalho is about to seal a move to Olympiakos whilst Xande Silva could also follow Carvalho to Greece with Aris Thessaloniki interested, although that move has hit a stumbling block over the players finances.
