Leaders Continue Their Winning Form

That’s five wins, from their opening five matches, for both Cuckney CC and Papplewick & Linby CC, in the Owzat-Cricket Nottinghamshire Premier League, following the weekends’ matches, but the game between Hucknall CC, in their win against hosts Notts & Arnold CC, was something, different.

A low-scoring game, it was, very much so, the two sides sharing just 193 runs over their respective innings, but credit the respective bowlers as well, with some seventeen wickets falling as Hucknall won by three wickets.

Hucknall would field first, and subsequently bowled out their hosts for just 96 runs, opener Johan Cronje top-scoring with 29, one of four, Notts batsmen, to reach double figures, Connor Ramm impressing with the ball as claimed 6-16 in just 8.2 overs, picking apart the lower order at will.

In reply, Hucknall registered 97/7 for victory with Sam King 28, and Hassan Chaudry 21 n/o, their opening four reaching double figures with Chaudry, and Jake Wright, seeing them home, Sam Kaye taking 3-28, ultimately in vain, from his ten overs.

Meanwhile, at the top of the table, the pair of Cuckney, and Papplewick & Linby, are enjoying themselves right now.

The leaders, now on 40 points, defeated defending champions Kimberley CC, by six wickets, restricting them to 246/6 with Dominic Brown posting 79 n/o, and Jack Nightingale 65, they being two of six batsmen to hit double figures, Andrew Hazeldine good with the ball when taking 3-66, and Richard Bostock nicking 2-12, from their nine and seven overs respectively.

Replying, the leaders hit 250/4 in 46.2 overs as Nick Langford knocked 61 n/o, Ewan Laughton made 60, and Joseph Hayes 53; as for Papplewick & Linby, they dished out 220 runs defeat on visitors Gedling & Sherwood CC, they struggling in the field.

Posting an impressive 342/3 from their fifty overs, Papplewick then tore into the Gedling order to skittle them for just 122 in reply; the hosts’ opening batsmen both hit double figures as Brent Williams smashed 147 before being lbw’d by Muhammed Aqeel, and Louis Bhabra joined Williams, when hitting 140 himself, before being caught by Oli Soames.

Gedling’s reply of 122 all out did see two batsmen reach their thirties, but that was as good as it would get, Aqeel hitting 32, and Soames 30, with Adam Majid also adding 22 runs to the meagre tally, Ben Bhabra the pick of the bowlers when taking 3-39, whilst Jim Rhodes, Christopher Glover, and David France, all took two apiece.

The remainder of the Premier Division top five is made up of Cavaliers & Carrington CC, Hucknall CC, and Clifton Village CC as Cavs defeated visiting Attenborough CC by eight wickets having bowled them just 137 even though Savin Perera hit 63, the highest of the two innings.

Clifton meanwhile pull up the rear after they edged visitors Wollaton CC by just fourteen runs, Don Butchart with 103 for the hosts Nicky Kirkwood knocking 87 in reply; and in the remaining game, Plumtree CC slipped past Radcliffe-on-Trent by just two runs.

It’s all swings and roundabouts in Division Two though, as the top sides jostle for position, and the four, leading clubs, have won three and drawn one of their opening games, and just four points splitting them.

Mansfield Hosiery Mills CC lead the way, but lost for the first time, by twenty-two runs, when hosting Clipstone CC, who are fourth, sandwiched between are Cavaliers & Carrington 2nds CC, and West Bridgfordians CC, the latter defeating the former by four wickets, whilst there was also a big win for Caythorpe CC as they defeated Cuckney 2nds by 182 runs, and that was after being put into bat by their visitors.

Adeesha Nanayakkara hit 107, and Dan Frost 63, en-route to posting a decent 282/6, before dismissing their opponents for a straight century, Conall Doughty top-scoring with a stubborn 38 n/o, and Henry Styring 14, the only two to reach double figures, Mark Footitt tearing them apart with 5-26, especially the opening order when bowling both Matthew Beer and Nathan Crookes, whilst inflicting a c&b on William Ullyott, for one.

The Preliminary Round of the Premier League’s Twenty20 Cup was also played at the weekend as Gedling & Sherwood CC defeated Cuckney CC by one wicket, the latter seeing Thomas Ullyott hitting an unbeaten, 51 n/o, but in vain, as Iezaz Ul Hassan replied with 57 of his own to see Gedling through.

Wollaton CC meanwhile progressed with an eight wicket defeat of West Bridgfordians CC, as opener Nicky Kirkwood smashed an impressive 102 n/o from 56 balls (inc. 11 fours, and 4 sixes), remaining sides received byes.
