Notts Back To Winning Ways In Cup

Nottinghamshire 227/8-226 Durham (Royal London One Day Cup Group A) 14.08.22

After back-to-back defeats in the Royal London One Day Cup, Nottinghamshire returned to winning ways against Durham at Grantham on a scorching Sunday which ended with a near-nail biting two wicket win.

The Northerners were bowled out for 226 in just 45 overs with Liam Trevaskis 59 not out, the only stand-out performance after starts for Maddinson (37), Borthwick (36) and Dickson (26).

The brilliant Liam Patterson-White, fresh from his England Lions debut last week was in brilliant form with a five for forty-five from his ten overs, ripping through the high order after Ben Hutton saw off opener Graham Clark early doors.

LPW took the next five wickets including a first ball duck for Tomas Mackintosh before Matthew Montgomery got Mitch Killeen on 17 and Zak Chappell ripped down the tailenders with three wickets to give Notts a realistically catchable target to chase.

In response, things didn’t go quite to plan. Ben Slater bowled early-doors by Rushworth for eleven, then Budinger, Schadendorf and Hameed went with Notts 76-4 and in a sticky situation.

Montgomery and Lyndon James did help stir the ship back towards the open sea with a partnership that saw Notts pass the 150 mark before James went LBW to Rushworth for 35. Patterson-White then lasted just 18 balls for 7 runs before he was bowled by Killeen but Fateh Singh shown some resilience with Montgomery who himself passed the fifty mark.

Montgomery (54) went with the score on 198 with Singh following with Notts still needing twenty to win. The nervous ending with two wickets to spare however eased by Hutton (8) and Chappell (16) who saw Notts past the posts to a third win in five group A matches.

Next up Notts visit Warwickshire on Wednesday before two further games, v Leicestershire and Surrey which will determine whether the county can progress further in the competition they last won in 2017.
