Notts Build Lead Over Leicestershire

Nottinghamshire 201 & 390/7dec v 93 & 20/0 Leicestershire (County Championship Division Two) 06.09.23

*day two (of four)

After a good second day with the bat, Nottinghamshire closed Tuesday’s proceedings with a 479 run chase needed for their visitors to achieve victory at the midway point of this match.

15 without loss was the overnight score ahead of Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed entering the field of play on an overcast second days morning as the two openers put on a partnership to further take this match away from Leicestershire.

At 48 without loss the two sides were momentarily taken off the field for bad light, before play resumed and Slater was finally taken, caught and bowled Barnes after a first wicket stand of 87 took Notts lead to 195.

Hameed hit fifty before lunch as Notts dominated the morning session, he went for 60 shortly into the afternoon with Notts 128 for 2.

Joe Clarke then hit his fifth red ball fifty of the campaign to stretch the lead over 300 before Montgomery went for another fine knock, of 44, mistiming a shot back to Finan for another Leicestershire caught and bowled.

Clarke was next to go, caught behind off Parkinson for 67 with Notts 245/5 and leading by 337.

Mullaney hit 24 before he went to the bowling of Kimber ahead of tea.

Lyndon James hit a 69 ball half century before being caught behind off Walker on 61 with the lead stretched in Nottinghamshire’s favour to 455. Moores then went on 28 which lead to the declaration from Notts skipper Steven Mullaney, the hosts a whopping 498 in front ahead of the final overs of the day.

Evans and Azad saw the final 13 overs out and will begin life again at the crease this morning, not an impossible task for Leicestershire, with an outcome certainly most likely today, as long as the rain keeps away.
