Meeus Wins Tour Stage Five

Belgian born cyclist Jordi Meeus of the BORA – Hansgrohe team, sprinted to the biggest victory of his career during the fifth stage of the Tour of Britain which started in West Bridgford earlier today and travelled throughout the Nottinghamshire countryside to Mansfield where the finish line roared home the riders.

Meeus edged Stanislaw Aniolkowski of Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB whilst Leeds born Tom Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers) finished third to gain four seconds on overall race leader Gonzalo Serrano who rides for Movistar Team.

Pidcock currently wears the points jersey and is second in the standings but Serrano of Spain has the overall lead jersey, Ireland’s Matthew Teggart has the sprint jersey whilst Mathijs Paaschens of the Netherlands is the king of the mountains with three stages to go.

The day in Notts started out at a packed West Bridgford town centre with the race taking in the quaint villages of Rushcliffe as streets were lined with spectators to cheer on the event, eventually moving on through the Borough’s of Gedling & Newark & Sherwood, to towns like Southwell and Retford before entering Clumber Park and ending with a race to finish down the Chesterfield Road in Mansfield.

The event sponsored by AJ Bell picks up in Tewksbury tomorrow morning before ending in Gloucester later in the afternoon, Saturday see’s the race start and end in Dorset before the final leg circles the Isle of Wight on Sunday.
