London Scottish 10-31 Nottingham (RFU Championship) 10.09.22
Nottingham Rugby started their season with an opening day win at London Scottish to go top of the table in the Greene King Championship.
It was the home side who started out of the blocks quickest in a match played at the Richmond Athletic Ground, an early penalty won by the hosts was kicked deep into the Nottingham half and from the resulting drive, Benson floated wide to Noah Ferdinand who went over for the seasons first try against, just three minutes gone.
It didn’t take Nottingham long to respond, Dan Richardson crashing over the line on ten minutes to level up with Sam Hollingsworth kicking the extras for a two-point lead.
On 28 minutes David Williams went over to give the away side the lead after a good burst out by the Archers forward line with the conversion scored by Hollingsworth, Nottingham leading 14-5 at half-time.
If the first half was largely tense and tight, the second was taken away from the hosts by an aggressive start from Craig Hammond’s side, Charlie Thacker just three minutes in, over after a quick-tap penalty caught Scottish napping.
A few minutes later some lovely play by Nottingham inside the London 22 lead to Marcus Ramage touching down for a fourth try of the game, with both kicks to the second half tries good, Nottingham’s lead stretched to 28-5.
Hollingsworth then kicked after a turnover lead to a penalty inside the 22 for a 26 point lead and although Austin Wallace went over with six minutes remaining to respond for the hosts, the damage was long done as the visitors cruised to win.
