Four From Four Forest Through In Cup

As the Vitality Women’s FA Cup began for the lower-ranked clubs in the women’s football pyramid, those higher up continued their league games as both Nottingham clubs collected victories.

Carly Davies’ unbeaten Nottingham Forest registered their fourth win in four (in all competitions), taking their tally to nineteen scored, when they saw off visiting AFC Fylde 3-1, in the FA Women’s National League Premier North, all four goals coming in the first 33 minutes.

Mai Moncaster took her tally to three goals with an early brace, she having the Reds two-goals to the good after just eleven minutes, before the hosts pulled a goal back just before the twenty minute mark, Ginny Lackey registering.

The goals continued to flow for the Reds when they, somehow, registered what was to be the last of the afternoon’s proceedings, Chloe Dixon restoring the hosts’ two-goal advantage following a brilliant run and finish, for her second of the season.

Next up for the Reds, Burnley away next weekend (Sunday 17 September), followed by back-to-back home games, the second of which, a certain East Midlands derby, in early October.

Meanwhile, Notts County Women, in the FAWNL Division One Midlands, came from two-goals down early on to go on level at the break, before snatching a last-gasp winner when away to Sutton Coldfield Town, their first (league) win of the season.

The hosts led inside ten minutes through goals from Liv Woolston and Chloe Finn, however, in the five minutes before the interval, County were level, Laura Steele and Emma Scoffham with the goals.

County came come to snatching a winner with five minutes remaining, however the post denied them then, but, five minutes into stoppage time, the goal arrived, former Forest Reserves striker, Takiah Burnett, a second-half substitute, popping up with the winner.

It’s back-to-back home games for County next, they welcoming Leafield Athletic on 17 September, then Solihull Moors a week later.

Two Notts clubs were on league duty in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League, Basford United drawing 2-2 at home to Anstey Nomads, and Mansfield Town going down 1-0 when away to Grimsby Town.

Plenty of goals were registered in the two, Notts Girls & Ladies League games, both Radcliffe Olympic, and Arnold Eagles Flyers, winning on the road, the former saw off Keyworth United Ladies 5-2, and the latter edging a nine-goal thriller at Hucknall Town.

As for the Vitality Women’s FA Cup First Qualifying Round, Arnold Eagles top-scored when away to Sleaford United, Natasha Leach amongst the scorers, whilst Retford, Nottingham Trent University, and Sherwood all won at home; Newark Town meanwhile bowed out when on the road at Wyberton Wildcats.
