Basford United hit Sporting Khalsa for a big six in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup on Saturday. The Ambers beating the West Midlanders from Willenhall 6-1 at Greenwich Avenue, a stunning display of attacking football from the Northern Premier League side.
Jordan Hallam got Martin Carruthers men underway with an 18th minute goal before Ethan Stewart headed home on 34 to double the host’s advantage.
Youngster Tyler Dacres scored ten minutes after half time before Hallam netted his second on 64, Josh Barnes got on the scoresheet four minutes later ahead of a consolation for Khalsa on 82, before ex-Scunthorpe United playmaker Hallam grabbed his hat-trick with four minutes remaining, netting home after a speedy run by winger Dacres, in all a comfortable afternoons work for Basford who will now set sight on who they’ll play in the next round draw ahead of league business at FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
Carlton Town are also through to the next round after a 90th minute winning goal by Liam Manneh against Stamford, the Millers beating the Daniels 1-0 at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
Worksop Town are also going through after an entertaining battle at Stratford Town, the Tigers racing into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Daniel Bramall and Jordan Burrow inside 13 minutes, before Owen James pulled one back.
Hamza Bencheriff netted ahead of half time to give Worksop some breathing space but a sending off for Sam Wedgbury had Town’s backs against the wall and a goal ten minutes from time by Alex Worley set up a tense finale which thankfully, Worksop managed to come through with 3-2 victory in Warwickshire.
No such luck for the counties other representative though, Newark & Sherwood United beaten by Grantham Town 1-0 to exit the competition.
Elsewhere, outside the world’s oldest cup competition this weekend gone, there were Notts sides in action in the United Counties Premier Division North on Saturday with a second successive win of the campaign for Hucknall Town at Wisbech. The yellows winning 2-1 on the road thanks to goals from Luis Parkes and Niall Towle.
Early pace setters Eastwood were held 2-2 by Newark Town at Coronation Park. Ryan Smith twice netting for the away side in injury time after Aaron O’Connor and Declan Dunn gave the hosts a late two goal lead. Eastwood dropping to second below Lincoln United who won their game 3-0.
The other games involving local Nottinghamshire based sides in the division included a 3-2 win for AFC Mansfield at Gresley and a 1-0 home loss by Kimberley Miners Welfare to Skegness Town.
