Westcarr Wins It For Wood

Craig Westcarr’s late header gave Eastwood Community all three points as the Red Badgers hold on to a five point gap at the top of the United Counties Premier Division North table. The former Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town forward netting on the 82nd minute to keep Martin Ball and Darrell Thomas’ league leaders at arms distance of those below.

Those below are led by Lincoln United who beat Harrowby 2-1, Bourne are third, they beat Melton Town 3-1 and are seven points behind Eastwood but with three games in hand, below them, Newark Town are fourth after a 1-0 win at Shirebrook, George Robbins with the all important goal, whilst making up the playoff places are AFC Mansfield in fifth, they drew 0-0 with bottom of the table Kimberley Miners Welfare at the Forest Town Arena.

It was a winning weekend for Newark & Sherwood who beat Heanor Town 3-1 thanks to a couple from Kole Lambert in between a Benni Wilson strike, whilst Hucknall Town slipped to a 3-2 defeat at relegation rivals Deeping Rangers, Town taking an early lead through Niall Towle, Davies and two from Sparrow giving the Lincolnshire side a two goal cushion before Towle pulled back his and Hucknall’s second late on, the yellows however could not take anything back to Notts, and are now seventeenth, just two points above Deeping who are second bottom.

In the UCL Division One, Clipstone are back to winning ways after 4-1 defeat last weekend, the Cobras beat Radford 1-0 despite Craig Mitchell getting sent off, Michael Williams with the winning goal midway through the second half.

Retford United are second and they beat Rainworth Miners Welfare 3-1 at Kirklington Road, a couple from Ross Goodwin and one from recent signing Alex Troke have the Badgers two points below the leaders with a game in hand, Jacob Barrass replying with what turned out to be a consolation for the Wrens.

Clay Cross in third beat Southwell City 1-0 but behind them in fourth, Retford FC beat Dunkirk 6-2 with a couple from Sam Tringle amongst those scored.

It was also a good day for Gedling Miners Welfare who off the back of their 4-1 win at Clipstone last week, beat Pinxton 4-0 with two goals from Kieran Harrison and one each from Gianfranco Ciaurro and substitute Josh Lawe.

Finally, not a great day for Clifton All Whites who were thumped 5-1 at home to Blackstones, West Bridgford were also beaten heavily, 4-1 at Holwell Sports, whilst Selston were beaten 3-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare.
