Worksop Win Takes Tigers Second

Worksop Town beat Stockton Town on Saturday in the Northern Premier League to move back up to second in the table after results went the Tigers way.

Two goals from Dan Bramall either side of the break gave Worksop a two goal lead, only to be pegged back late on by Mikey Roberts, but Craig Parry’s men took a vital three points as Guiseley who started the day in second, could only draw at home to Warrington Rylands.

After 19 games played, Worksop are a huge fifteen points behind league leaders Macclesfield but are on 35 points having played a match more than Guiseley who have a game in hand on those around them, Ilkeston Town and Ashton United make up the playoff places with both sides on 32 points.

Ashton United are fifth after they edged a cracker with Basford United on Saturday, the Manchester based outfit took the lead on the stroke of half time but Kane Richards and McKeal Abdullah looked to have turned things around for the Ambers in the second half.

Sean Newton levelled the match up on 76 before Mansfield Town loanee Abdullah got his second of the match for Basford on 81, an 85th minute leveller and a 92nd minute winner however, giving the home side all three points, Basford are fourteenth on 23 points from their 20 games played.

In the NPL East Division, it wasn’t a good weekend for either Carlton Town or Sherwood Colliery, both Notts outfits humbled away from home.

Carlton lost 4-1 at Brighouse with Nat Watson scoring the Millers goal whilst Sherwood suffered defeat by the same scoreline at Bradford Park Avenue. Mason Lee netting for the Wood in a game where Robson Doolan was sent off.
