Linby Still In The Hunt For Second
The battle for second place in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier South is a tight affair heading into the final few games of the season, with just six points separating that of Melbourne Dynamo, Linby Colliery Welfare, Graham Street Prims, and Cromford & Wirksworth.
Linby kept up the pressure in the top three when they came from a goal down at the break to win 2-1 at home to Holbrook St. Michaels, the game being turned over thanks to Greg Conn with a little over twenty to go, and Spencer Pollitt inside the final fifteen.
They trail Melbourne Dynamo on goal-difference after Dynamo picked up a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Arnold Town, the hosts having netted a quick-fire pair early on via Isaac Nkrumah; Gerrard Hallam netted from a corner, and Samuel Freeman equalised.
At the bottom end of the table, Teversal are still looking at the Great Escape, and picked up another point, this time in a 1-1 draw at home to Graham Street Prims, Joshua Parfitt again netting for a Tevie side now just three points from safety.
In the Premier North Blidworth Welfare are joint-fourth with Elite AFC and Staveley Miners Welfare, and a point ahead of seventh place Worksop Town Reserves, after the Welfare and Elite shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, Dillon Hodgkinson and Archie Ward netting for Blidworth.
Worksop Reserves meanwhile, they went nap when home to Rossington Main Reserves, Noah Kilcoyne’s second half brace helping them on their way to 7-1 win; leading 3-0 at the break the Tigers’ second string also found the net through Alex Russell, Ollie Ellery, Max Eastwood in the first half, as well as Jamie Purkiss and Josh Sinclair in the second.
Division One North sees SJR Worksop Development sitting fifth after their 2-0 home win over 780 JLC, Thomas Mullen and Callum Wright netting; whilst in Division One East Shirebrook Soldiers celebrated winning the title with a 4-2 home win over Pilsley Community, Ben Charlesworth netting a brace.
Meanwhile Long Bennington and Southwell City Development played a seven-goal thriller, the hosts edging the contest, 4-3, thanks to goals from Benjamin Barretto, Theo Barretto, Jenson Longden, and Marcel Ludew, the replies coming via a brace from Vincent Kerslake, and one for Finley Mellows-Simpson.
And in Division Two, David Smith’s second half goal earned Ashland Rovers Reserves a point in their 1-1 draw with visiting Aston Village.
