*four day match Nottinghamshire win by 8 wickets

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club got their 2025 summer red ball season off to the perfect start with an eight wicket win at Trent Bridge over Durham.

Notts left it late, in the last session of the last day to take victory, but needed just an hour after tea from bowling Durham out to chase down 89 ahead of 5pm Monday afternoon.

Notts also gained three batting points and three bowling points to top the County Championship first division after a game played.

It seems a distance away since Friday morning and when Notts won the toss to put Durham into bat, the visitors doing ok in sumptuous sunlight to get to 378 with Colin Ackermann totting up 116 to top score. Josh Tongue with four wickets for 92 doing most of the damage with the ball.

In reply, Notts stormed to 579 over the weekend with Ben Slater hitting 92 and Freddie McCann scoring 79 before Lyndon James contributed towards the back end with a fabulous 125 from 160 balls. That and a 55 from Josh Tongue helping Notts to a lead of 201.

Durham responded with yet another century from South African born Dutch international Ackermann, he top scored 124 with Graham Clark chipping in with 62 but a collapse helped by some super bowling by Fergus O’Neill (3 for 35) and Josh Tongue (5 for 66) left Notts with a reachable target, and despite losing a couple of cheap wickets, Haseeb Hameed on 39 and Joe Clarke 35, both not out, saw the hosts home to their first win of the season.
