Midweek Round Up – Grace Close In As Cotgrave Awarded
FCV Grace Dieu need just one point from their final three league games to wrap up the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division title, following a routine win away to FC Sez on Tuesday night.
Cotgrave have ran the race all season long, they joining the title hopefuls with an away win of their own, at Radcliffe Olympic, but just a few slip-ups, have proved costly; Tuesday though, in the Premier Division, it was mainly about the away sides.
The top two won their games, 5-0 and 4-0 respectively, Wollaton eased to a 7-1 success at Dunkirk, Aslockton & Orston picked up a 2-0 win at Ruddington Village, and Awsworth Villa won 1-0 at Woodthorpe Park Rangers, whilst it was honours even in the game between West Bridgford and Keyworth United.
At the top, FCV picked up another three points thanks for a Joshua Halliday brace, and one apiece from Craver Grossman, Smauel Warburton, and Spencer Weir-Daley, the victors leading by two at the break; meanwhile Cotgrave would find themselves going in goalless at the break before goals arrived via a Thomas Spencer brace, and one each for Samuel Dunn and Ben Upton.
The top two will close their respective seasons with three roads trips, FCV travelling to Awsworth, Ruddington, and Aslockton, before contesting the NSL Senior Cup final, also against Aslockton, at Hucknall on 10 May; Cotgrave meanwhile are at Wollaton, FC Sez, and Southwell City Reserves.
The next two sides in the NSL Premier are contesting third and fourth place, with a point separating Aslockton, and Keyworth; the former picked up a 2-0 win at Ruddington thanks to goals from Kieran Wells and Tyrell Gordon, and the latter found themselves held to a 1-1 draw at West Bridgford, Darren Fotso and Thomas Siswick netting for their respective sides.
The remaining game in the Premier Division saw Wollaton’s steady rise up the table continue following their 7-1 demolition of hosts Dunkirk, Jacob Taylor would net twice for the victors along with goals from Alex Doyle, Kai Hendricks-Gough, John Lally, and Liam Taylor, John Fitch with the hosts’ consolation.
One game was played in Division One as Bingham Town kept alive their outside chance of pipping leaders Kimberley Miners Welfare to the table, following their 11-0 routing of visitors, second bottom Keyworth United Reserves.
James Maberley notched a hat-trick alongside braces Kieran Stanley and Jacob Boyes, with Joseph Hornigold, James Randall, Freddie Kennedy, and Cole Maule also netting; although the leaders just need a victory from their last two games to lift the title, Bingham, although ten adrift, have two games in hand, whilst Colsterworth also have a slender, outside chance.
In the one game played on Wednesday night, Red Sea won 3-0 away to Cotgrave Development, goals coming from Mohammed Amir, Tevin Nyaruri, and Adam Abdulaziz, the two sides completing their respective seasons.
