Paterson Takes Charge At Notts

Notts County have announced former Burnley forward Martin Paterson as Head Coach with Andy Edwards and Sam Slocombe also taking up coaching roles within the club.

Paterson most recently led Burton Albion to League One safety whilst in temporary charge of the Brewers this season and his reward for that work, a contract with Notts, Director of Football, Roberto Gagliardini, stating “We’re hugely excited to introduce Martin as our new Head Coach.

“Despite still being in the early stages of what we believe will be a tremendously successful coaching career, Martin has been entrusted with several senior roles, both in the UK and USA, by highly-respected figures within the game.

“In our conversations with him it’s been clear that he shares our vision of playing dynamic, progressive football and, as much as the club’s DNA will remain the same in terms of our desire to dominate the ball, we believe he may bring more intensity and directness to our play.

“Martin wants his teams to be extremely hard-working, well-organised and difficult to play against – characteristics which were key to his success at Burton having become their manager in very challenging circumstances.

“We believe we can provide the environment for Martin to demonstrate his true capabilities as a Head Coach and we thoroughly look forward to working with him.”

Former Norther Irish international Paterson will get to work, ahead of the clubs pre-season schedule which is now fully locked in, and will see the Magpies take in six matches throughout July.

Primary focus is the pre-season tour to Germany, where the club faces three games in a week, as well as two further away games on British soil, before finishing with a home clash, on 26 July, against Cardiff City.

SV DARMSTADT 98 – Florian Kohfeldt’s side finished twelfth in the 2. Bundesliga last season and play at the Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor. Following several departures this summer, Die Lilien are starting to announce new players who will very likely feature against County.

Kick-off – 9 July, 18:30 (local time)

FC KAISERSLAUTERN Managed by former Darmstadt boss, Torsten Lieberknecht, the Red Devils finished in a credible seventh place in the 2. Bundesliga last time around. Playing at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion they suffered a fall from grace back in 2012 having spent a number of years in the German top flight – they are four-time Bundesliga and two-time DFB-Pokal winners.

Kick-off – 12 July, 13:30 (local time) – note, this game will be played at the club’s training ground, in the near vicinity of their main stadium, and ticket allocation in limited.

STUTTGARTER KICKERS Marco Wildersinn’s Blue Gods are perhaps the lesser known of the trio of German opponents for the Magpies, but like their compatriots have a long and varied history. Playing at the Gazi-Stadion auf der Waldau they’ve spent recent seasons playing in the country’s regional leagues, the highest of 2. Bundesliga around the turn of the millennium. Last season they finished sixth in the Regionalliga Sudwest, the fourth tier of German football.

Kick-off – 15 July 19:00 (local time)
