The English Ice Hockey Association Midland Cup took place between Sutton Sting and Nottingham Lions last night with the winners from Sutton-in-Ashfield moving level on points with group leaders Solihull Barons from four matches played.
The five team group involves local sides the Lions and Sting with Solihull, Blackburn Hawks and Widnes Wild.
Last night at the National Ice Arena the Sting proved to strong for hosts Nottingham winning 4-0 with goals from Charlie Saunders, Jamie Scott and two for Stanislav Lascek.
The Lions have struggled this season so far with just one win from eleven league and cup games that coming against Widnes in the earlier weeks of the Midland Cup in which they lie 4th out of five whilst they prop the NIHLN1 seven team table with six defeats from six.
Sting have started the season slightly better and are second level on points with four wins from four played in the cup but are finding things tougher in the league which they lie fifth in having won once in normal time, once in over time whilst losing in OT and three other matches defeated in regulation.
Sutton are up next at Solihull in the Cup on Sunday whilst the Lions face Widnes at home.
