Hales Heads To South Africa

Nottinghamshire & Trent Rockets batsmen Alex Hales is heading to Durban for the South African version of Twenty20 cricket which starts on Friday and will be played up until December 16th.

The controversial but swashbuckling big hitter will join Durban Heat who finished bottom of last season’s six team tournament but in joining the likes of Dane Vilas, Ravi Bopara and Keshav Maharaj the East coast outfit will be hoping for much better this year.

Hales is ranked no7 in the ICC world rankings for batsmen despite not playing for England since March 2019.

Other Nottinghamshire interest in the 2019 Mzansi Super League includes the clubs T20 captain Dan Christian who like last year will play for final winners Jozi Stars whilst Imran Tahir who had a short spell at the club in 2015 will line up for Nelson Mandela Giants.

Elsewhere Trent Rockets new signing Dawid Malan (who also signed for Yorkshire at county level this week) has been in fine form with the bat despite England struggling to successive losses in New Zealand. The former Middlesex batsmen hit 55 in vein as England lost by 14 runs in Nelson following his 39 in Wellington and an 11 in the win at Christchurch.

New Zealand who have former Notts spinner Ishi Sodhi amongst the wickets head the series 2-1 with two games to play.
