Badgers & City Through In Senior Cup

Retford United are through to the third round of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup after beating Newark Town on penalties at Bowbridge Road following a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Newark took the lead after 11 minutes of the tie when James Evans netted but the away side were level on 43 when the returning Mark West finished off well to cap his first start since a long injury lay off with a goal.

In the second half Badgers keeper Tom Crosby kept the score down with two fine saves and on 68 Retford were awarded a penalty which Zach Cashburn dispatched.

Two minutes later Retford hit the post through Igor Mlynarski before Newark levelled the tie through Ricky North sending the game into Extra Time and penalties with Jack Walters finishing off the match netting the fifth and final spot kick after Newark missed theirs.

On Tuesday night Southwell City also made it through to round three after beating Burton Joyce 5-2 in their County Cup match at the Memorial Ground.

Cal Law opened the scoring on 21 after volleying in from Selby’s flick on from a Stocks free kick before the away side had a goal ruled out for offside which could have levelled things up.

Southwell however doubled their advantage on 33 when Selby headed in a rebound from Gleeson’s free kick and the Minster Men might have made it three before the break when Law headed over.

In the second half Selby went close for the home team on 64 and a minute later they were three up when Ant Brown looped in a header.

Three became four when substitute Oliver Clarke volleyed home on 71 but Burton Joyce pulled one back two minutes later beforein the final minute a corner went all the way over Tooley in the Southwell goal.

However it was City who had the last laugh as Law finished the game off after good work from Clarke.

Back in league action Eastwood Community beat West Bridgford 3-1 on Wednesday night with two late goals from Paddy Webb after John Whitehurst levelled early in the second half for Bridgford following Joe Harrison giving the home team a lead.

On Tuesday night Clipstone drew 1-1 with Borrowash with Jack Warwick opening the scoring at the Lido on 49 before Naughton levelled for the Vics on 70.
