Hewitt Excited To Face Former Club
Nottingham Forest Women face Derby County this weekend in the second round of the Women’s FA Cup with Reds Defender Georgia Hewitt chomping at the bit to take on the bitter rivals from down the A52.
Hewitt who’s good form has played a major part in Forest’s recent successes is an ex-Derby County player herself born and raised in Derby but that doesn’t detract that she’s firmly Forest these days and is excited about facing her old club in such a big cup tie.
Hewitt said “The good thing about being from Derby is I think I understand the fixture incredibly well and I know how much it means to the fans and to us as Forest players to win because everyone wants bragging rights for the badge they wear on their heart.”
“Obviously, there’s a different element of buzz that adds to the game because it is the FA Cup and it’s against Derby but we will approach the game as we do every other game, it will be no different.”
After joining Forest in 2018 Hewitt has grown as a player and enjoyed success with the Reds stating “Since I’ve moved to red side of the A52 I’d say I’ve turned into a completely different player from what I was and I’m thankful to Forest for giving me the opportunity and for continuing to develop me as a player.”
“I absolutely love this club, whether it’s my team mates or the staff. I just absolutely love it and everyone involved. I consider it my home and a club that surprisingly has a special place in my heart.”
Forest go in to the game in a good run of form having won their last six league and cup games scoring 34 goals in the process and conceding just four.
Last time out the Reds beat Notts County Development to reach the last four of the Nottinghamshire Senior FA Ladies Cup thanks to two goals from 17 year old skipper Katie Middleton with one from Sophia Bonser, Mai Moncaster, Aimee Hickingbottom and Georgia Hewitt herself who completed the rout as the Reds romped home 6-0.
This week will be much more difficult as the Reds take on FA National League Northern Premier Division opposition in Derby although they have met in the league already this season with Forest edging a tight game at Pride Park 1-0 thanks to a late Precious Hamilton strike.
Kick Off on Sunday at Mickleover Sports is 1pm with all Forest fans urged to attend if possible.
