Reds Women Set For Kick Off
Women’s football is back at last and Nottingham Forest are getting ready to start their FA Women’s National League campaign on Sunday 20th September as the new season is finally set to get under way next month after the 2019/20 campaign was cut short due to covid-19.
The long anticipated 2020/21 season has been given the green light by the league to start and Forest will see some familiar faces with Burnley, Derby, Fylde, Middlesbrough, Sheffield FC, Huddersfield, Hull, Loughborough, Stoke, Sunderland and West Brom all set to join the Reds in a twelve team league which is the third level on the women’s football pyramid.
Last season Forest under Manager Andy Cook were brilliant until the campaign’s premature end as they chased down the promotion places staying competitive in the top echelons of the division and this season the side will feel confident that they can do even better as the club look to progress back up the leagues.
Forest are back in training but are yet to face friendly opposition ahead of the new season start but across the river Notts County have been busy back this weekend having beaten Sleaford Town Ladies 8-1 on Sunday whilst the Magpies Development squad were held to a 1-1 draw with Mansfield Hosiery Mills LFC.
Elsewhere in women’s football over the weekend Radcliffe Olympic beat Blidworth 5-4 whilst Ollerton Town Ladies were beaten 3-1 by Lincoln City Women.
It’s not all been good news with football’s return however. Due to lack of funding Arnold Town Ladies have ceased their membership with the East Midlands Womens Regional League having failed to secure sponsorship and players for the new season ahead.
