Stags Beaten By Rotherham

Mansfield Town 0-3 Rotherham United (Friendly) 22.08.20

Mansfield Town were beaten by Rotherham United in a pre-season friendly at Field Mill this afternoon, the Stags third friendly of the summer as they look to increase fitness on their league season start in three weeks time.

The Stags started the better of the two sides with Harry Charsley forcing the Rotherham goalkeeper to tip over on seven minutes before Mal Brenning a minute later went close firing over.

On 22 minutes Benning fired over from O’Keefe’s delivery before Rotherham’s Clarke tested Stech in the Mansfield goal and with five minutes of the first half remaining Maris might have put the Stags 1-0 up but for his effort cleared off the line.

If the Stags shaded the first half the newly promoted Championship club certainly imposed themselves in the second and five minutes in Rotherham took the lead when Mattock curled in a free kick.

That lead doubled on 62 when Smith flicked in and after Mansfield fought back with chances of their own the South Yorkshire side cemented an impressive day for them in the final minute of the match when Miller headed home from a free kick delivered into the box.

A tough workout for Mansfield after 189 days away from Field Mill either side of lockdown, the club next face Preston North End on Saturday 29th August in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Stags: Stech, Menayese, Rawson, Sweeney, O’Keefe, Perch, Maris, Charsley, Benning, Bowery, Cook.
