County Strengthen GK Department
Notts County have signed Luke Pilling from Tranmere Rovers as the former Welsh Youth international now 23 is added to the Magpies squad ahead of the new season.
The Birkenhead born shot stopper had been with Tranmere since the age of six although was only used as cover at Prenton Park registering just three first team appearances since making his debut in 2017.
Having played on loan in the National League North whilst at Ashton United Pilling has also caps at U20 and U21 levels for Wales featuring in the 2017 Toulon Tournament where he was named goalkeeper of the tournament.
After signing for Notts, Pilling stated “I definitely want to build on my international experience in my club career and get as many appearances as I can.”
“It feels strange coming somewhere else when Tranmere was on my doorstep and that was all I knew from a young age, but it’s exciting for me – it’s a change and I definitely needed that.”
“I know Sam Slocombe’s been a top keeper for a long time but I’m here to push him all the way and give people something to think about.”
Although Pilling won’t feature against Ilkeston Town today he will be available next weekend against Alfreton as Manager Neal Ardley excited with the capture said “We need to push Sam and of all the goalkeepers the recruitment team and I have looked at, he’s the one we like the most. We feel he’s the right fit for us.”
Ardley stated “This also opens up the avenue for Tiernan Brooks to go out and play games. Tiernan’s only young – he’s a real prospect but it’s probably a little too soon to be throwing him in.”
