Burnley 4-2 Mansfield Town (Friendly) 05.09.20
Mansfield Town were beaten this afternoon by Premier League Burnley in a friendly match played behind closed doors.
The Stags made a good account of themselves against top level opposition as Ollie Clarke opened the scoring with a cracking effort before Josh Brownhill levelled for the Clarets before half time.
With plenty of changes made in the second half for both teams the Premier League side shown their class with two goals for Chris Wood and one for Bobby Thomas before a late Danny Rose strike reduced the deficit.
It was a good start for Mansfield who went close through Jordan Bowery before Clarke’s long range strike flew into the back of the net and although Burnley went close when Vydra forced the best of Stech with a header they had to wait until moments before the break to get level when Brownhill curled home a terrific free kick.
As Mansfield made eleven changes at half time it was Sean Dyche’s side who looked much stronger as Wood tapped home on 55 before Thomas headed in and with ten minutes remaining Wood made it 4-1 racing through to smash home after a lovely build up.
Danny Rose did pull another goal back for the Stags late on as his deflected cross crept home off Charlie Taylor to end an entertaining afternoons game. Mansfield now face a tough test against Manchester City U21’s in the group stages of the Football League Trophy on Tuesday night.
