Basford United U18 5-1 Lutterworth Athletic U18 (FA Youth Cup First Qualifying Round) 24.09.20
Basford United’s under 18s put in another fantastic FA Youth Cup performance as three second half goals saw them cruise into the next round, with a 5-1 win over Lutterworth Athletic.
Wayde Hines opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, with Basford starting brightly. Lutterworth did draw level on 11 minutes as Tiernan Campbell found the back of the net, but found themselves behind at the break through Jerricho Bonners 43rd minute effort, after several good stops from Matt Hammond had kept the score down.
The second half saw Hines fire in his second within three minutes of the restart before Rory Harrison made it four. Basford continued to dominate proceedings and capped off the win with 13 minutes left through Kiarnne Nyemba.
Basford United got off to the perfect start as Hines fired home, to cap off a fantastic counter attack that started with a Lutterworth corner. They almost doubled that lead through Jordan Haywood as the left back forced a good stop from the visiting ‘keeper.
That was before Lutterworth struck back through Campbell, as he capitalised on a mix up from Basford at the back. But Basford were soon on the front foot again as Jacob Taylor had an effort saved and Hines fired inches past the post.
Sam Newell was the next player to go close for Basford, the midfielder saw his effort saved by Matt Hammond in the Lutterworth net. There was nothing he could do about the next effort though as Bonner fired home a loose ball to give Basford the lead at the break.
Basford’s attacking strength continued into the second half and they had a third in the 48th minute. The ball was worked into the path of Hines and he drilled it low into the bottom corner out of the reach of Hammond.
Just six minutes later Basford put together another great move that was rewarded with a fourth. The ball was worked from right to left and ended with Haywood putting in a delightful cross for Harrison to ghost on to for a tap in.
Hines was involved in Basford’s next two big chances, as the captain’s armband seemed to lift his game even more. The 16-year took aim for the bottom corner from range only for his effort to come back off the post. He then looked to get an assist as he sent Harrison through on goal with a delightful flick, but the winger was denied his second of the game by a last-ditch tackle from Oliver Sullivan.
Basford’s pressure was rewarded on 77 minutes as they got a deserved fifth. The ball was threaded through to Nyemba and he took it around the on-rushing Hammond and into the empty net.
Josh Law’s side then came close to a sixth late on. Defender Callum Frogson took the ball out of the heart of defence and past several player, as he looked to cap off a fine performance from Basford, but he could only find the side netting as the score stayed at 5-1.
