Notts County have been drawn away at either Blyth Spartans or Morpeth Town in the Buildbase FA Trophy whilst Basford United’s rewards for beating Rushall Olympic last night in the competitions first round is a round two tie at home against Felixstowe & Walton United of the Isthmian League.
F&W beat Leatherhead last night to progress to the next stage with the Suffolk based side having to make the long trip north to Greenwich Avenue on Tuesday 15th December with the winners of the tie receiving £3,750 in prize funds but more importantly a trip to either Hitchin Town or Peterborough Sports in round three.
The third round has already been pencilled in for Saturday 19th December 2020 with £4,500 on offer for each winning team. Notts County come into the competition at the third round stage which in effect is the last 32 of the competition, the Magpies last season reached the semi-final before losing to Harrogate Town in a match played at Meadow Lane in September. The final of the 2020 competition between Harrogate and Concord Rangers is still to be played.
The Magpies despite losing in the last four of the 2019/20 edition will again be confident of a good run in this seasons comp and a tricky away draw against North Eastern opposition will certainly be a test but one that could delight either Cal Roberts or Liam Noble as either could potentially face their former side.
Roberts played last season for National League North outfit Blyth whilst Noble could face his old club in Morpeth colours. The Geordie born midfielder played near 100 games for County in two stints between 2014 and 2018.
For Basford it will be a team they know little about in Felixstowe & Walton but Steve Chettle’s men will be confident after a thumping 5-0 win in the first round against Rushall which seen five different scorers hit the target for United, Ryan Wilson, Brad Gascoigne, Marcus Marshall, Callum Chettle and Rev James all filling their boots in the win.
