Elite League Pushes Resumption To September
The Elite Ice Hockey League has announced that their will be no competition for the 2020/21 season after colossal delays on its comeback already imposed by the government and their restriction implications which originally put pay to a potential restart at the turn of the year.
With the UK still in lockdown, the Elite League has decided that giving up any hope of starting a league season until September which means that following the 2019/20 campaigns early end, the 2020/21 season will be completely washed out with attention instead to 2021/22 and concentrating on what is hoped to be a full term of long-awaited Ice Hockey to come.
The EIHL stated ‘Yesterday we heard the full details of the Government’s Winter Survival package for the English Elite League teams. It was to begin season 2020/21 with no fans and government support only in the form of loans.”
“To start on that basis would threaten the very future of professional ice hockey in the United Kingdom.”
This will allow Nottingham Panthers good time to prepare for a new season as there is optimism that by September, supporters in some capacity will be allowed back into venues to watch their teams play.
