Richmond 17-34 Nottingham (RFU Championship) 15.05.21
It’s been a long time coming and at the eighth attempt after seven straight defeats in the league, Nottingham RFC have finally won a Championship game this season after beating Richmond who are now bottom of the table, leapfrogged by Neil Fowkes men after a win by 34 points to 17 on Saturday.
The game previous, a fortnight ago, Nottingham lost to Saracens without scoring at home, a whitewash defeat by 56 points to zero at the Bay, the side of superstars too strong for the Green and Whites, but they soon put things right by registering their first win of the campaign in South West London.
A penalty try in the first minute set the tone before David Williams went over on eight with the conversion by Alex Dolly doubling the away sides advantage.
Litchfield responded on 22 with a converted try but George Cox restored Nottingham’s advantage as Dolly again found the posts before Kirby kicked over a penalty for Richmond, Aneseko Sio crossing the line two minutes before half time extended the away sides lead to 26-7 at the break.
That increased again as Williams went over for his second try of the afternoon five minutes before the break, and although Richmond themselves were awarded a penalty try midway through the half, Alex Dolly finished things off with an 80th minute penalty to give Nottingham a seventeen-point win.
Next up for Nottingham is Bedford Blues on Saturday. A side just three points and a place above the green and whites in the table, dare we dream two in a row?
