Notts Announce Retained List
Just 72 hours after playoff nightmare and after being consoled to another season in the National League, Notts County have announced the players that they’ll keep and the ones they’re letting go ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
The biggest news perhaps is that Michael Doyle has been offered a player coaching role at the club and should he accept, he’ll sign for another season whilst Enzio Boldewijn, a talented footballer that has sometimes flattered to deceive, but on occasion has produced the magnificent, is one that is released and won’t be wearing the two Magpies upon his chest again.
Boldewijn stated after hearing the news his services would not be needed from next season “To have been Notts County’s longest-serving player this season was an honour and I’m very proud of the many great goals I managed to score in the black and white stripes.”
“Most of all, though, I have cherished my relationship with the fans. From day one they welcomed me into their club and gave me the confidence to do what I do best.”
“They stuck by me and my team-mates through some of the toughest times of our careers, including our relegation from the EFL and the financial uncertainty that followed.”
“I can’t thank them enough for their support and I’m so pleased I was able to score one final goal in front of them in the victory against Weymouth.”
Other players to be released include goalkeepers Luke Pilling and Luke Steele whilst Ben Turner, Damien McCrory and Jordan Barnett have also been let go.
Returning to their parent clubs from loan include Mark Ellis, Calvin Miller, Regan Griffiths, Matty Wolfe and Jimmy Knowles whilst players offered a new contract include Sam Slocombe, Tiernan Brooks, Connell Rawlinson, Adam Chicksen, Dion Kelly-Evans and Jim O’Brien.
The retained list of players still under contract are as follows: Alex Lacey, Richard Brindley, Jake Reeves, Callum Roberts, Ruben Rodrigues, Lewis Knight, Elisha Sam and Kyle Wootton.
