A perfect summers day at Nottingham Racecourse gave us a fantastic and competitive action-packed meeting on a good-to-soft course today which will now likely dry out and whet the appetite further ahead of Friday’s Colwick Cup Day, one of the biggest racing days in the city which is often and will again this year be enjoyed by a bumper crowd of family fun.
With the first race at 1:55pm to a sparse attendance of more regular horse-goers, it was Aristobulus trained under J Ferguson and ridden by Daniel Muscutt who raced to victory in the 6 furlong class five for 2 year old only horses. A 9/4 favourite taking the Moorgate Training Nursery Handicap.
A Gleneagles filly named Typewriter then shown some stern stuff to pull through ahead of Flaming Lord as the 13/8 favourite edged the 11/2 shot into second for AM Balding and David Probert in the second race of the day.
That was followed by Gentleman At Arms winning race three at 6/1 for Harry Dunlop and Jim Crowley.
Race four, the 15:35 ‘It Pays To Buy Irish EBF Condition Stakes’ was a three-year-old only class three run by just five horses over 5f8y and trainer Michael Appleby’s Danzeno edged Dubai Station by a nose to take the prize.
The 16:10 Moorgate Drink Drive RS Handicap saw a win for Latin Five at 7/2 ahead of Boudica Bay, the days penultimate race the Moorgate CPC Driver Training Handicap then saw 11/1 shot Secret Potion beat Shamarouski over the line by a nose.
Finally, the last race of Tuesday’s meet was won by Don’t Joke for Mrs R Carr ridden by Aiden Brookes at 12/1.
Next up is Friday and Colwick Cup Day with tickets available through the Jockey Club website.
