Panthers Beat Steelers With Shutout

Nottingham Panthers 3-0 Sheffield Steelers (Elite League) 19.03.22

Kevin Carr’s 38 save shutout backstopped The Nottingham Panthers to a 3-0 win over arch-rivals Sheffield on Saturday night.

Carr got the start in goal for the Panthers against Rok Stojanovic for the Steelers.

Nottingham got off to the perfect start when Kevin Massy (0.16) scored inside the first 20 seconds & bring Panthers’ fans out of their seats just as they’d got into them, backed by a raucous crowd the Panthers dominated the first ten minutes (two powerplays helping the cause) but couldn’t add to their lead.

The Panthers had to kill a late penalty themselves but a determined penalty kill unit kept the Steelers at bay & went into the first intermission holding their one goal lead.

Sheffield pressed in the second period and were denied on multiple odd-man rushes, Carr coming up huge on each occasion including one where he made the initial save before Mark Matheson was on hand to keep out the rebound with his shins.

On their second penalty kill of the night a fortunate bounce sprang Sean Richards (37.22) and his confident finish saw Nottingham take a two-goal lead into the final period.

Carr continued to hold strong & a disciplined defensive performance eventually led to Robbie Baillargeon (56.08) tapping in a rebound & sealing a memorable two Premier Sports Elite League points for the Panthers.

The win keeps Nottingham fourth in the table with Sheffield now second and four points behind leaders Belfast. Next up for the Panthers is a trip to Glasgow tonight.
