Archers End Season In Defeat

Nottingham 5-26 Doncaster Knights (RFU Championship) 01.04.22

Nottingham were beaten by Doncaster at the Bay last night as the Archers end their disappointing RFU Championship season with a fifteenth defeat in twenty games.

The away side took the lead in just seven minutes when Holden went over and doubled their advantage to two scores as Evans touched down on eleven. Olver’s conversion gave the Knights a 12-0 lead which was how it stayed until half time, but in the second half Doncaster added two more converted tries (through Edgson & Wheeldon) before Bunting replied with a late score to reduce the deficit.

The win takes Doncaster top of the table as previous leaders Ealing play in their final game of the campaign Richmond today, a win for the Trailfinders will gift them the league title and promotion to the Aviva Premiership whilst defeat will see the Knights go up instead.

For Nottingham, a season of under-achievement, finishing second last in the table some way behind those sides above. The hope is for some good recruitment in the summer will help lift the side to a higher placed finish in 2022/23.
