CMA Round Up – SJR Double Up
Double success came the way of SJR Worksop on Saturday afternoon in the Central Midlands Alliance, their firsts winning 2-0 at Yorkshire Main to continue that steady climb from the relegation zone of the Premier North, and the development sides won 4-1 at Dearne & District to increase their advantage atop of Division One North.
The firsts are now just two wins off sixth place having registered back-to-back wins for only the second time this season (other was three-in-a-row back in late September, early October), this time following a road win in Yorkshire, and a goal in each half giving them the three points.
A headed effort from Luke Tong, off a long Aaron Pickersgill throw-in, afforded SJR the lead on the half hour mark, whilst the hosts were rocked early in the second period when they suffered two red cards in a matter of minutes; Liam Cross added the visitors second goal late in the second with the hosts finishing with nine men following a third, red card offence.
SJR Worksop – Darren Smith, Aaron Pickersgill, Lewis Furness, Alex Bennett, Kyle Wesley, Jake Scott, Aaron Redfern, Joe Bean, Luke Tong, Liam Cross, Scott Wesley (subs – Tom Napper, Freddie Millard, Tom Mullen)
Two sides in the Premier North netted ten, leaders Dinnington Town, whom SJR travel to next (21 December), won 10-1 against AFC Phoenix, and Kiveton Miners Welfare won 10-0 against Rossington Main Reserves.
SJR will start 2025 with a home game against second place Doncaster City (4 January), before back-to-back local clashes with Ollerton Town, and Worksop Town Reserves; their development side meanwhile continue to lead the way in Div 1E, registering a 4-1 win on Saturday also.
Taylor Thackery was on-hand to bag a brace for the victors, he being joined by goals from Harvey Brayford-Taylor, and Kian Smith, opening up a seven-point advantage on a chasing pack that have between three and six games in hand – three points splitting that of Evo FC, Bessacarr, Kinsley Boys, Appleby Frodingham, and Bottesford Town Development.
Worksop Town Reserves exited the Sheffield County Cup, losing heavily at Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves, Matty Lee with three and Ollie Cormack two, in the hosts’ 7-0 win, whilst Reilly Hodge netted a hat-trick, including two penalties, as Blidworth Welfare progressed in the Nottinghamshire Senior Trophy, 5-2 at home to Toton Tigers, and Anrlodn Town lost 3-0 at Cotgrave.
In the CMA Premier South, Teversal lost 4-2 away to Bakewell Town, Sam Jackson netting one in each half for the visitors and James Handley bagged a hat-trick for the victors.
Ashland Rovers romped to a 7-0 home win in Division One North, seeing off visitors Blidworth Welfare Reserves with comparative ease, braces from Nathan Atkins and Edward Morgan their first goals of the season, and Long Bennington were dismissed from the Lincolnshire Junior Cup, 5-3 away to Ruston Sports, Alfie Morley’s brace for the visitors in vain.
