NSL Round Up – Cranmers Beat Cotgrave

Aslockton & Orston, and East Leake Robins, won their respective home ties on Saturday afternoon, to reach the final four of the Notts Senior League Senior Cup competition.

Both sides faced tough opposition, and the results reflected that fact; Aslockton, riding a crest of a wave in third place in the NSL Premier Division, hosted second place Cotgrave, in a see-saw game.

Cotgrave opened the scoring after just three minutes, Lawrence Cooke scoring, before Greg McLean equalised just a minute later, the sides going in level at ones apiece at the break; the second half saw the hosts gain some control as first Jack Robb netted from the spot, with Pierce Hallam furthering the advantage.

The visitors added a second of their own late on with Lee Potts netting, the hosts holding on for the win; in the other semi-final, Division One high-fliers, East Leake Robins, upset top five Premier Division side, Collingham, on penalties.

Sharing four goals, the hosts netted through Klaudio Marqeshi and Nathan Ball, with Billy Richardson and George Asplin, the visitors doing so either side of the break; the Robins netted their first three penalties, whilst Collingham only scored once, the Robins winning 3-1 on penalties.

Of the five games played in the Premier Division, leaders FCV Grace Dieu, and that stingy defence, have now gone eight games without conceding in the league, over 720 minutes worth, and eased to a 6-0 victory when home to lowly Beeston.

Alis Hallaci helped himself to a brace, whilst further goals arrived via Cornelious Olajide-Oriowo, Jerell Sellars, Callum Hill, and captain Joe Lindley, as they opened what is now, an eighteen-point lead on second, and a mammoth twenty-five points on third.

Ninth place Ruddington Village edged visiting Radcliffe Olympic 1-0, Ross Cochrane-Smith with the only goal of the game; tenth place Awsworth Villa win 2-0 at home to West Bridgford Reserves thanks to a brace from Josh Rae; and FC Sez, sitting fourth bottom, defeated visitors Keyworth United, who are in fifth, 3-1, thanks to Dior Anderson, Riley Parton, and Haiba Soueyeh.

The remaining game in the top division saw Southwell City Reserves and Wollaton Reserves share the spoils in a 1-1 draw, Harry Eastgate and Liam Taylor netting for their respective sides.

Of the four games played in Division One, three were high-scoring affairs; third place Bingham Town won 7-2 away to Ravenshead with Jake Boyes netting a hat-trick; fourth place AFC Colsterworth won 5-0 at Keyworth United Reserves and with five, different scorers; and Clifton All Whites Reserves eventually saw off visitors Bilborough TRD, 6-3, with Lucas Perkins netting twice, Jake Kane with a brace for the visitors.

The remaining game in the division would see a Juan Ghali goal the difference-maker as AC United won 1-0 at home to Hucknall Town Reserves.

Elston United moved top of Division Two, by two points, and with four games in hand, over Notts Olympic, following their 2-0 home win against Greyfriars, goals coming from James Scott and Rui Thacker, early in the second period.

AJ Sport are third, and within touching distance of the top two, following their 4-2 success at Arnold Town Reserves, Kian Leavesley with a hat-trick for the victors; and Wollaton Reserves climbed to fifth after putting fourth place Gedling Southbank to the sword, 4-1 at home, Tiago Mata with a hat-trick.

Just two games were played in Division Three, with thirteen goals between them; leaders Beeston Reserves won 4-0 at Collingham Reserves, and mid-table Awsworth Villa Reserves won 7-2 at bottom club, Nottingham Greens.

As for the Development Division, the top two both won, they split by goal-difference, as Newark & Sherwood edged a nine-goal thriller at Red Sea, and Attenborough won 3-1 at home to AFC Warriors.

In the thriller both Joseph Kingsman and Kalvin Osborn grabbed braces to keep their noses in front, whilst in the latter there was a brace for Lewis Caine as the race heats up.
