Basford Strengthen Ahead Of Borough Test

Basford United have strengthened their squad with three additions this week ahead of their BetVictor Northern Premier League clash at Radcliffe Borough tomorrow (3pm).

Steve Chettle’s side are currently in third place just four points behind leaders South Shields and go in to Saturday’s match at eighth place Radcliffe unbeaten in eight having drew last time out in what was a thriller against Whitby.

United have added former Notts County and Boston United midfielder Cieron Keane who returns for his second spell at Greenwich Avenue as does young striker Rev James a local boy who played on loan at the club last season from Oxford United.

Finally Goalkeeper Kieren Tongue also joins the club with all three potentially going into the squad for tomorrows match in the North West.

Manager Chettle might have felt last week United dropped two points after taking the lead in stoppage time before conceding a late equaliser to end the game 3-3 but instead focused on the positives of twice coming from behind themselves stating “We shown some great character. We thought we had done it, but couldn’t defend the last set play. It was a point gained although it was a little bit heart breaking at the end to concede at the death”

Ahead of Radcliffe he said “It’ll be a tough game” but with new signing Ashley Worsfold already off to a scoring start he and his team are positive that they can get the result.

In other Basford news the side have been drawn at home to either Belper Town or Matlock Town in the last 32 of the Integro League Cup with North Nottinghamshire outfit Worksop Town given a tricky away tie at Grantham.

The Tigers are without a game this Saturday but their South East Division league rivals Carlton Town who are currently top of the league face Stocksbridge Park Steels at Bracken Moor knowing a win would consolidate (at least) their slender lead at the top.

Anyone travelling up to Sheffield for Carlton’s away league clash would like to know admission is £8 adults and £5 concessions with a 3pm kick off.
