Bonus Point Win For WB – Rugby Round Up

Nottingham were without a game as the Rugby Union Championship took a rest last weekend but there was no shortage of action as a number of our local teams played on Saturday with the highest ranked of those Paviors hosting Bridgnorth who were in the end too strong for the Papplewick based team.

Bridgnorth who are third in the Midland Premier eventually won 27-12 but the match ended well for eighth placed Pavs who scored the try of the game late on when Alex Barton went over for his second try of the match.

In Midlands 1 East West Bridgford beat Old Northamptonians 36-23 taking a bonus point thanks to two tries from Marlow and one each for Haddon, Wilson, Carter and Gidman. The win taking West Bridgford to level on points with Northamptononians and just two points off fourth placed Lutterworth.

In Midlands 2 East (North) struggling Ashfield were beaten by Long Eaton 38-8 whilst Newark were edged out by Market Rasen & Louth losing 18-13 and it was a bad day at the office for Nottingham Casuals who were thumped 41-0 by Matlock.

Things went slightly better in Midlands 3 East (North) for local sides as fourth placed Mellish closed the gap on Ashby in third after beating them 10-3 to go level on points whilst Southwell beat Rolls Royce 36-3.

Mansfield however lost a tight game at home to Bakewell Mannerians 17-20 and bottom of the table Nottingham Moderns lost at home to Sileby Town 21-38.
