Can Forest Build On Winning Weekend?
After Saturdays success tonight might be billed more predictably as the calming of the storm but as Ciara still whistles around these parts (all be it a little more gently than the weekend) there’s still plenty of hope in Forest fans that the Reds have enough puff left in them to blow over Charlton Athletic.
Sabri Lamouchi’s promotion pushers take on the Addicks at the City Ground having closed the gap on the automatic places to just one point on Saturday and with fifth placed Brentford playing fourth spot Forest’s fallen victims Leeds United who are second (just) tonight things are closer at the top than ever before.
Whilst Saturday’s famous victory is still being played back (I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve aired Tyler Walker’s last minute goal and played back Mull of Kintyre in the office) now is the time to focus more than ever on the next big game as Charlton, fighting for their lives will be no push over under Lee Bowyer.
The last time the two clubs met things were very much different, back in August with both teams starting the season strong and both challenging for points towards the top of the table with the game ending in a 1-1 draw at the Valley. Since October however Charlton have fell away from playoff contention dramatically with just two Championship wins in 19 matches as the South Londoners now sit 21st just four points above the drop zone.
Charlton lost 3-1 at Stoke at the weekend but people who know the Championship will know that previous results do not tell the whole story and Forest will have to be at their best again to take all three points.
The Reds could go with the XI that is now etched into every fans best with a 4-2-3-1 line-up of Samba, Cash, Figueiredo, Worrall, Ribeiro, Sow, Watson, Lolley, Silva, Ameobi, Grabban but there have been calls for starts for others with the likes of Joao Carvalho, Tyler Walker and even Gaetan Bong getting a mention.
Another packed house is guaranteed but fans are warned to get to the stadium early following congestion issues since the temporary closure of Clifton Bridge with a gridlocked city making accessing too and from a complete nightmare.
But true to form, through thick and thin a packed City Ground faithful will be in attendance, flags and banners and all to cheer the team on in the hope we can all go home happy tonight three points in hand whilst sitting in the car stuck without moving but listening to the joys of Colin Fray as they play back our goals.
A quick word from Sabri Lamouchi who said… “In this league, we need to be ready immediately and switch on for the next one. The next one is a different game, a different opponent but with the same goal at the end to try and take the maximum points.”
Kick off is at 7:45pm and remember get there early to avoid being late.
