Notts Through After Late Win

Stockport County 1-2 Notts County (FA Trophy Round Four) 16.01.21)

Notts County are through to the fifth round of the FA Trophy after a dramatic late win at Stockport County on Saturday.

Neal Ardley made big changes ahead of the match in Greater-Manchester as he swapped around his usual rotor from league proceedings and the side he put out didn’t let him down as Jimmy Knowles, one of those fringe players given an opportunity at Edgeley Park, opened the scoring on the half hour after good work from Boldewijn & Rodrigues allowed the Mansfield loanee to tuck home after 32 minutes.

That lead didn’t last long as Palmer bundled home a corner on 37 minutes to level the scores and in a tense second half the home side looked to have the best opportunity to take the lead on 71 when Thomas hit the post with a lob that had Pilling rooted to the spot.

On 76 minutes Pilling this time saved this time from Reid and when Bennett hit wide when it looked easier to score on 85 minutes it seemed not to be Stockport’s day which was confirmed in the 89th minute when Kyle Wootton scored with a long range shot via a massive deflection to take Notts through.

Wolfe could have rounded it off in injury time but his miss mattered not as Notts make it through and go another step closer to the Wembley final showpiece.

Notts County: Pilling, Miller, Lacey (Rawlinson 57), Graham, Brindley, Reeves (Doyle 68), Wolfe, Rodrigues, Knowles, Sam, Boldewijn (Wootton 51).
