It’s been far too long after a lengthy unwanted absence from the pitch largely disrupted by covid during the past year or so, well over eighteen months in total without Rugby League for staff, players and fans, but Nottingham Outlaws finally got back to doing what they do best and with it, a win at the weekend as the side beat Sheffield Forgers 50-4 on Saturday in a friendly that was the first opportunity where new Coach Adam Cunliffe could finally cast eye over the side he’s built up during lockdown.
The post-covid era squad looked dominant against a Forgers team with impressive performances from Joey Moran and club captain Alex Whittle with a superb try assist by Brandon Whittaker the highlight which included an exquisite no look pass. A sign of things to come perhaps?
Scorers included James Amachree with three and one each for Hunter, Treble, Stewart, Whittaker, Whittle, Dale and Andrews as the Outlaws ran rampant in an enjoyable first game back after what has felt like ever, since they last played.
The Outlaws team included two separate line ups with the first half picked as the following: 1 Adam Cunliffe, 2 James Amachree, 3 Coryn Ward, 4 Loic Radegonde, 5 Gaz Whitfield, 6 Brandon Whittaker, 7 Sam Morris, 8 James Hood, 9 George Strachan, 10 James Gisborn, 11 Oliver ‘Judo’ Dale, 12 Mike Stewart, 13 Alex Whittle.
And second half team as: 1 James Amachree, 2 Albert Paskevic, 3 Sailosi Wakawaka, 4 Coryn Ward, 5 Joe Bexon, 6 Adam Cunliffe, 7 Joe Hunter, 8 Corey Beck, 9 Joe Moran, 10 Sam Andrews, 11 Ronan Treble, 12 Abraham Sua, 13 Sam Dennison.
With a busy schedule ahead, Nottingham are next in friendly action at Moorends away on Saturday before the season start of the Yorkshire League on Saturday May 8th where the Outlaws take on the New Earswick All Blacks at Lenton Lane before away trips to Siddal and Cutsyke end the month of May.
