Stagettes Hit Four Again

Mansfield Town Ladies have registered back-to-back, 4-0 victories, to start off their Trevor Clifton Trophy campaign following Sunday afternoon’s win away to Sherwood Women.

Having seen off visitors Arnold Eagles in their opening match, two of the four scorers then, registered in the second as well, Natasha Leech and Shannon Purdy netting, whilst further goals were added by Jessica Parker and Harriet Heaney also scoring.

There were mixed fortunes for Notts County’s two women’s sides in the trophy, although at one point it looked like they’d take all the spoils.

In Group A, County Development eased to a 2-0 home win over an Arnold side fielding a handful of Development players, whilst the first team, leading by two themselves at the break, threw it away in the final half hour of their Group B encounter away to Loughborough Students Women.

Netting a hat-trick in the opening fame, Nya Chambers would proceed to add two more as County raced into a two-goal, interval lead; however, as the game ticked into the final thirty minutes, the hosts pulled one back, direct from a corner.

The hosts then levelled proceedings with a little more than twenty remaining, Larissa Mellors trying her luck from range and finding the target and, just a minute later, the turnaround was complete, Amy Pownall slotting home what proved to be the winner.

Elsewhere concerning Nottinghamshire clubs, Rise Park Ladies lost to Derby County Academy 3-1 at home in Group B, and  SJR Rockware of Worksop have shipped thirteen in two, losing 7-1 away to Oughtibridge War Memorial.

Whilst other games in the TCT would see six goals shared in the game between Coalville Town Ravenettes and Leicester City Ladies, whilst Peterborough United Ladies won an eight-goal thriller away to Oadby & Wigston Women.

Sunday 2 May will see the following fixtures in the TCT –

  • Arnold Eagles Women vs. Sherwood Women; Mansfield Town Ladies vs. Notts County Development

  • Notts County Women vs. Derby County Academy; Rise Park Ladies vs. Loughborough Students Women
