Kings Lynn Town 2-4 Notts County (National League) 11.01.22
Notts County won a thrilling game in Norfolk to move fourth in the National League table, the clubs first match since the passing of legendary commentator Colin Slater and three points very much dedicated to the man himself.
It wasn’t actually the perfect start Notts County needed or expected following a nine day layoff as after just nine minutes on the clock Gold Omotayo rose highest at the back post to put the hosts ahead.
In response Vincent combined with Roberts on a couple of occasions as the Magpies main threat, the best chance created in the opening 45 minutes when Roberts cut in to find his midfield partner who shot on the turn well saved by Jones.
Four minutes ahead of half time it was Rodrigues this time combining with Vincent, the former Torquay man shooting first time which was diverted behind for a corner.
But Notts got their response in a magnificent second half turnaround, Head Coach Ian Burchnall went 4-3-3 taking off Francis for new loan signing Zak Brunt and on 52 minutes Cal Roberts netted an equaliser before a second goal for the Geordie Messi five minutes later, a clinical finish to put the Magpies ahead.
Roberts then made it three on 67 and claimed his first County hat-trick after Brunt did well for the former Newcastle United and Blyth Spartans winger to finish off close range.
Top goalscorer Kyle Wootton had a chance to make it four before supplying Frank Vincent who did lash home a fourth on 78.
Kings Lynn responded with a fantastic free kick on 78 minutes by Clunan but it was too little too late, the away sides impressive second half turnaround the difference, on the day ignited by the touchpaper of Cal Roberts with his boots on fire.
Notts fans can put behind them a tough few weeks with postponements and a sad loss of a great part of the family with Eastleigh next at Meadow Lane, an opportunity to celebrate the life of Colin Slater with hopefully, yet another win in the FA Trophy.
