Hughes Scoops Awards & Tigers Announce Friendlies

Liam Hughes and his Worksop Town team-mates have reaped their just rewards for a successful, last campaign, in the Northern Premier League.

A season in which saw manager Craig Parry’s Tigers romp to the NPL East Division title, with a record-breaking season, Hughes would be the foremost name at the recent, league awards night.

In scoring an impressive, 42 goals in all competitions for the Tigers, Hughes would add a number of awards, accolades, to his NPL East title-winning medal.

The league’s awards night saw Hughes take home the NPL East Player of the Season, NPL East Golden Boot, NPL East Supporters Player of the Season, alongside that of the National Game Awards Step 3 & 4 Player of the Season, and Worksop Town Supporters Player of the Season, and the Players’ Player of the season.

In addition to those awards, more plaudits came the way of the prolific striker when he was named in both the NPL East, and the NPL Media Team of the Season, respectively; on top of Hughes’ astounding success, Worksop young-gun, Luke Hall, also claimed the NPL East Young Player of the Season award.

Speaking after the awards night, Hughes told the club website that: ““It was a special occasion.

“It was nice to have my partner there and to be sat with members of the Worksop Town committee and share the experience with them in picking up these awards.

“I know they are individual accolades, but it was a proud moment representing the club – and it topped off a great season….

“I never put myself at the top of that category and when it popped up that I had won it, it was a really proud moment for me and my family, and it was really humbling.

“I think with the accolades that we have got across the whole season, and being in and amongst some exceptional players from our team and others, really caps off a special year.

“One thing that will stick with me about this season is how great the club and everyone associated with it have been and to be recognised by fans from not just your own club but fans of other clubs, as well as players from opposing teams and your teammates, it’s exceptional.

“…..never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would score 42 goals but I am really proud of our achievements both individually and collectively….”
