Worksop Town were beaten 2-0 at Hyde on Saturday, a fourth Northern Premier League defeat in a row and a fifth in six league games, the Tigers dropping down to third in the table on 28 points from 16 games.
Craig Parry’s men are now three points below second placed Hebburn Town and a whopping 16 points below runaway leaders Macclesfield Town, despite up until early last month, Worksop being very much on the toes of Robbie Savage’s Silkmen.
Basford United are twelfth in the table after losing an entertaining game against Whitby Town at the weekend.
United eventually losing 4-3 in a match they were 2-0 down inside 25 minutes before pulling things back before the break to level, Ashley Chambers and Jordy Hallam from the spot netting United’s goals.
Whitby then took an early second half lead and were pegged back again by another strike from Hallam, this time a cracking free-kick curled home to make it 3-3, but an 85th minute strike by Stephen Walker gave the Town striker a hat-trick ball and a match winning smile to close the gap on the Ambers and Seasiders in the table to simply goal difference, late on Saul Deeney was sent off for handling outside the area with Josh Barnes taking the gloves for the remaining minutes of the match, United next host Stockton Town on Tuesday night whilst Worksop face Whitby who return to Nottinghamshire from the North East.
