It was an exciting day for Notts County Women on Sunday afternoon when a mixture of reserves and under 21s players combined to help the club reach the semi-finals of the Nottinghamshire FA Women’s County Cup, where they’ll be joined by Arnold Eagles, Basford United, and Mansfield Town.
County, who gave senior debuts to 16-year-old duo Chloe Newens and Layla Smith, they having been at the club since joining the under 9s, eased to a 10-0 success when home to Notts Girls & Laies League side, Keyworth United.
Leading by four at the break, Smith was one of those on the score-sheet with a brace, whilst there were hat-tricks for the pairing of Brooke Emmerson and Aurelia Burdett, further goals being netted by Hollie Lewis and Takiah Parkes.
County’s Reserves side meanwhile, in the FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands division won 4-1 away to Sutton Coldfield Town, moving into third place in the league, following their sixth straight win in all competitions.
Ava Williamson was on target twice for Mansfield Town as they booked their place in the County Cup final four, easing to a 5-0 win at home to Nottingham Trent University on what was manager Andi Bell’s birthday (happy birthday Andi, from the Nottingham Sport).
Three further goals were added by the hosts, who led 3-0 at the break, through Monica Bowley, Erin James, and Amy Pashley; a pair of braces from Chloe Phillips and Laura Porritt saw Basford Untied progress, 4-1 at home to West Bridgford Colts; and Emma Goodard’s brace put Arnild Eagles in their second successive semi-final when they won 2-1 at Radcliffe Olympic.
Two games were played in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League, SJR Worksop slipping to a 2-0 loss at Sheffield in the Premier Division, and the Division One North’s mid-table pairing of Sherwood, and Dronfield Town, sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw, the hosts netting via Grace Adeyinka and Katie Fish.
Mansfield Town Development are top of the Notts Girls & Ladies League Seniors One, but were held to a 2-2 draw at Hucknall Town; Uni of Nottingham, who won 5-1 at Lowdham Colts, and Radcliffe Olympic, are joint-second, with Calverton Miners Welfare fourth after they won 3-0 at home to Retford.
Lowly Nottingham Trent University Pink saw off visitors Blidworth Welfare 2-1, whilst there was a seven-goal thriller between mid-table duo, Newark Town, and Basford United U23s, the former winning 4-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Jessica Parker, Alice Murphy also netting, the replies coming via Ella Dorman, Seren Abbott, and substitute Sophie Shaw.
